our story
Ippothesis, the Panhellenic Equine Welfare Society (PA.S.P.I.), was founded in 2014 (Athens Court Registration No. 30636/2015) to save equines and to address the legislative gaps in equine protection in Greece. Through legislative proposals, parliamentary interventions, and public education, we aim to end equine abuse and push for the enforcement of proper control mechanisms.
Although Greece adopted some EU Directives on equidae, no control systems were applied. Our greatest achievement was triggering the implementation of equine registration and traceability, following our official complaints to the European Commission. The electronic database for equidae finally became operational in October 2022 — a legal obligation since 2008.
In 2020 we also achieved the nationwide ban on the slaughter and export of equidae for slaughter. Our mission now focuses on ensuring full integration of equine welfare legislation and establishing a strong institutional protection framework for all equidae categories.
